CTE Looks to the Future
Dear TUSD Community:
With emerging programs in Engineering and Biomedical Health Technologies, validation teams will be working on the standards and measurement criteria which should be completed by this fall. Over one hundred teachers, specialists, counselors and administrators attended the 33rd Annual ACTEAZ Summer Conference. Participants received up-to-date information on CTE standards, CTSO events and activities, and CTE assessments. They also networked with colleagues from across the state and chosen from nearly 300 sessions. The 2008-2009 school year will bring additional program assessments, the development of second-year and third-year course sequences, CTSO activities and competitions in 37 program areas, as well as the continued integration and strategic planning of TUSD CTE programs with PCJTED. Look for the continued enhancement of career pathways and articulated programs of study to ensure student success in the 21st century.
Students will have the opportunity to enroll in new, enhanced CTE/PCJTED programs at their high schools or through PCJTED at central sites. CTE is increasingly aware of the need for student mastery of critical 21st Century Skillls -- global literacy, problem-solving, innovation and creativity. In addition, 21st century standards, assessments, curriculum, instruction, professional development and learning environments must be aligned to create a support system that produces 21st century outcomes for today's students.
